Offshore & Marine Structural Steel
Offshore and marine steels combine strength, weldability, toughness and fatigue performance for structures exposed to dynamic loading and aggressive environments.
Engineering basis
Low-carbon fine-grain and TMCP steels dominate modern offshore structures; higher-strength quenched-and-tempered grades are also used.
Standards, grades or methods
API 2W/2H/2Y families, EN offshore grades, classification-society shipbuilding grades such as AH/DH/EH series and project-specific NORSOK/DNV requirements may apply.
Typical applications
Platforms, jackets, topsides, FPSOs, ships, offshore wind foundations, subsea structures and marine terminals.
Critical checks
Check through-thickness properties, CTOD/Charpy toughness, weld heat input, fatigue class, lamellar-tearing resistance, corrosion allowance, coating and cathodic protection.
Good engineering practice
Use the current governing code or specification and verify manufacturer data, material traceability and project-specific requirements. Where safety, pressure containment or structural integrity is involved, obtain approval from the responsible engineer before changing material, process or acceptance criteria.
Element Folio engineering reference. Requirements vary by standard, project and jurisdiction.
