Construction BOQ & Engineering Estimation Tools

Practical calculators for early-stage quantities, budgeting and engineering planning. Start with a building material BOQ, pipe and water calculations, project controls and QA/QC tools, with specialist estimators expanding across infrastructure and industrial construction.

Create BOQ / Estimate

Select your project type below. Each estimator converts early project information into preliminary quantities and allows market-rate costing.

How to develop a reliable preliminary BOQ

Begin with a documented scope boundary: what is included, excluded and assumed. Record the project location, measurement system, estimate date, drawing revision, area definition and construction specification. Break the estimate into measurable work sections rather than applying one unexplained cost per square metre.

For each item, calculate quantity × unit rate and distinguish material supply, labour, equipment, subcontract and transport. Add waste or cutting allowances only where justified; do not apply the same percentage to every material. Keep contingency separate from measured quantities and identify whether tax is included.

Example: floor tile allowance

If net tiled area is 120 m² and a documented 7% cutting/waste allowance is appropriate, the preliminary order quantity is 120 × 1.07 = 128.4 m², rounded according to pack sizes. This is an illustration: pattern, tile size, room geometry and supplier pack quantities can change the actual requirement.

Before issuing a commercial estimate

Reconcile the quantities with drawings, confirm the specification and measurement rules, obtain current supplier quotations, review labour productivity and check site access, temporary works, logistics and exclusions. Exported results should be labelled preliminary estimate until independently reviewed.

Why use an engineering estimation hub?

Early project decisions often happen before coordinated drawings exist. Element Folio’s estimation tools are intended to convert the information that is available—area, rooms, lengths, diameters, quantities, occupancy or project geometry—into transparent preliminary quantities. Assumptions remain visible so the result can be refined as design information improves.

The tools are useful for feasibility studies, preliminary budgets, procurement planning, option comparison and scope development. They do not replace approved engineering design, detailed quantity surveying or supplier quotations.

Save, refine and return

The Home Material BOQ can already be saved privately in the current browser and exported as a priced CSV or clean printable BOQ. Account-based cloud projects are being developed so registered users can maintain multiple estimates and access them across devices.
