Steel Mill Test Certificates (MTC / EN 10204)
Mill test certificates provide traceable evidence that supplied material meets specified chemical, mechanical and test requirements.
Engineering basis
EN 10204 inspection documents include 2.1, 2.2, 3.1 and 3.2 types. Type 3.1 is commonly requested for critical engineering materials; 3.2 adds validation by an independent or purchaser-authorized representative depending on the arrangement.
Standards, grades or methods
MTCs typically identify heat/cast number, product, dimensions, standard, grade, chemistry, mechanical tests, heat treatment and inspection results.
Typical applications
Pressure piping, structural projects, oil and gas, power, marine, stainless fabrication and QA/QC dossiers.
Critical checks
Verify certificate authenticity, heat number against physical marking, standard edition, grade, delivery condition, dimensions, test temperatures, required NDT and any third-party endorsement.
Good engineering practice
Use the current governing code or specification and verify manufacturer data, material traceability and project-specific requirements. Where safety, pressure containment or structural integrity is involved, obtain approval from the responsible engineer before changing material, process or acceptance criteria.
Element Folio engineering reference. Requirements vary by standard, project and jurisdiction.
