Aluminum 5083
Aluminum 5083 is a high-magnesium 5xxx alloy known for excellent marine corrosion resistance and strong welded performance.
Alloy basis
It is non-heat-treatable and retains useful strength in welded structures; sensitization control matters for elevated-temperature exposure.
Typical applications
Shipbuilding, marine structures, LNG/cryogenic tanks, pressure vessels, road tankers and heavy welded structures.
Common tempers / conditions
Common tempers include H111, H116, H321 and O.
Engineering selection notes
Confirm the exact alloy designation, temper, product form, thickness/diameter, mechanical properties, corrosion environment, joining process, surface treatment and certification. Properties can vary substantially by temper and product form.
QA/QC
For critical service, verify heat/lot traceability, mill certificate, chemical composition, tensile properties, temper, dimensional tolerances and any required NDT or third-party inspection.
Element Folio engineering reference. Verify the latest governing standard and producer data before design or procurement.
