Aluminum 7050
Aluminum 7050 is a high-strength aerospace Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy developed for improved through-thickness toughness and stress-corrosion resistance in heavy sections.
Alloy basis
It is precipitation hardenable and frequently used in plate and forgings.
Typical applications
Aircraft wing structures, bulkheads, fuselage frames and thick aerospace machined components.
Common tempers / conditions
Common tempers include T7451 and T7651.
Engineering selection notes
Confirm the exact alloy designation, temper, product form, thickness/diameter, mechanical properties, corrosion environment, joining process, surface treatment and certification. Properties can vary substantially by temper and product form.
QA/QC
For critical service, verify heat/lot traceability, mill certificate, chemical composition, tensile properties, temper, dimensional tolerances and any required NDT or third-party inspection.
Element Folio engineering reference. Verify the latest governing standard and producer data before design or procurement.
