2xxx Series Aluminum
2xxx alloys use copper as the principal alloying element and are known for high strength and aerospace use.
Material basis
Many 2xxx alloys are precipitation hardenable. Copper increases strength but generally reduces corrosion resistance and weldability compared with 5xxx/6xxx families.
Applications
Aircraft structures, aerospace forgings, high-strength machined parts and transport components.
Common grades / designations
Common alloys include 2011, 2014, 2017, 2024 and 2219.

Selection and procurement checks
Confirm alloy, temper, product form, dimensions, applicable ASTM/EN/ISO/AA specification, mechanical properties, corrosion environment, joining route and mill certification before approval.
Element Folio engineering reference. Verify the latest governing specification and manufacturer data for final design or procurement.
