7xxx Series Aluminum
7xxx alloys use zinc, usually with magnesium and often copper, to achieve the highest strengths among common wrought aluminum alloys.
Material basis
Many are precipitation hardenable. High-strength Cu-bearing grades require attention to stress-corrosion cracking and corrosion protection.
Applications
Aircraft structures, aerospace forgings, high-performance sporting goods, defense and highly loaded components.
Common grades / designations
Common alloys include 7005, 7020, 7050, 7075 and 7150.

Selection and procurement checks
Confirm alloy, temper, product form, dimensions, applicable ASTM/EN/ISO/AA specification, mechanical properties, corrosion environment, joining route and mill certification before approval.
Element Folio engineering reference. Verify the latest governing specification and manufacturer data for final design or procurement.
