Aluminum 5454
Aluminum 5454 is an Al-Mg alloy developed for good corrosion resistance and improved elevated-temperature stability compared with higher-magnesium 5xxx grades.
Alloy basis
It is non-heat-treatable and commonly used in welded sheet and plate.
Typical applications
Tankers, pressure vessels, chemical transport equipment, dump bodies and hot-service welded structures.
Common tempers / conditions
Common tempers include H32, H34 and O.
Engineering selection notes
Confirm the exact alloy designation, temper, product form, thickness/diameter, mechanical properties, corrosion environment, joining process, surface treatment and certification. Properties can vary substantially by temper and product form.
QA/QC
For critical service, verify heat/lot traceability, mill certificate, chemical composition, tensile properties, temper, dimensional tolerances and any required NDT or third-party inspection.
Element Folio engineering reference. Verify the latest governing standard and producer data before design or procurement.
