Aluminum 7075
Aluminum 7075 is a very-high-strength Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy widely used in aerospace and other highly loaded applications.
Alloy basis
It is precipitation hardenable and can achieve very high strength, but corrosion resistance and weldability are more demanding than 6xxx alloys.
Typical applications
Aircraft structures, aerospace fittings, tooling, high-performance sporting goods and highly loaded machined components.
Common tempers / conditions
Common tempers include T6, T651, T73 and T7351, with overaged tempers often selected for improved stress-corrosion resistance.
Engineering selection notes
Confirm the exact alloy designation, temper, product form, thickness/diameter, mechanical properties, corrosion environment, joining process, surface treatment and certification. Properties can vary substantially by temper and product form.
QA/QC
For critical service, verify heat/lot traceability, mill certificate, chemical composition, tensile properties, temper, dimensional tolerances and any required NDT or third-party inspection.
Element Folio engineering reference. Verify the latest governing standard and producer data before design or procurement.
