Aluminum Temper Designations
Aluminum temper designations describe mechanical and thermal history and are essential to understanding final properties.
Material basis
F means as fabricated; O annealed; H strain hardened; W solution heat-treated unstable condition; T thermally treated to stable tempers. H and T designations have numbered subdivisions.
Applications
Use the temper together with alloy number, such as 6061-T6, 5083-H116 or 2024-T3.
Common grades / designations
Strength, ductility, corrosion resistance and formability can differ dramatically between tempers of the same alloy.

Selection and procurement checks
Confirm alloy, temper, product form, dimensions, applicable ASTM/EN/ISO/AA specification, mechanical properties, corrosion environment, joining route and mill certification before approval.
Element Folio engineering reference. Verify the latest governing specification and manufacturer data for final design or procurement.
