AISI 430 Stainless Steel
AISI 430 is a widely used ferritic stainless steel combining chromium-based corrosion resistance with low nickel content.
Grade overview
It is magnetic and generally not hardenable by conventional heat treatment. Formability is useful for many sheet applications.
Typical applications
Appliances, decorative trim, kitchen equipment, architectural interiors and automotive trim/exhaust-related components.
Equivalent / related designations
EN 1.4016 is a common comparison. Weldability and toughness can be more limiting than in austenitic grades.
Common manufacturers and supply
Produced in large volumes by major stainless flat-product mills.
Fabrication and selection notes
Confirm the exact product standard, edition, dimensions, delivery condition, mechanical properties, impact requirements, heat treatment, welding procedure, corrosion environment and certification. A grade name alone is not sufficient for procurement or design approval.
QA/QC documentation
For critical service, verify heat number traceability, mill test certificate, chemical analysis, tensile/impact results where required, NDT, heat-treatment record and project-specific third-party inspection requirements.
Element Folio engineering reference. Requirements vary by standard edition, product form and manufacturer; verify the latest governing specification.
