Steel Plate: Structural, Pressure and Wear Grades
Steel plate covers a wide range of thicknesses and service classes from ordinary structural plate to pressure-vessel, offshore, armor and abrasion-resistant products.
Material and manufacturing basis
Plate may be supplied as-rolled, normalized, normalized-rolled, thermomechanically controlled rolled, quenched and tempered or solution annealed depending on material.
Common standards and grades
ASTM A36, A572, A516, A514, A588; EN S355/S460/S690 families; stainless plate grades such as 304L, 316L, 2205 and 2507.
Typical applications
Buildings, bridges, tanks, pressure vessels, shipbuilding, offshore structures, mining equipment, baseplates and heavy machinery.
Engineering and procurement checks
Confirm thickness-dependent properties, Z-direction requirements where needed, impact temperature, flatness, lamellar-tearing risk, heat treatment and UT class.
Manufacturer selection
Source from a mill or qualified stockist able to supply the exact standard, grade, dimensions, delivery condition and certification required. Confirm manufacturer approval status, heat traceability, test certificates, marking and any project-specific third-party inspection.
Element Folio engineering reference. Always verify the latest governing standard, project specification and manufacturer data before procurement or design.
