Reinforcing Steel (Rebar)

Reinforcing steel is designed to bond with concrete and carry tensile loads in reinforced concrete structures.

Material and manufacturing basis

Most rebar is carbon or microalloyed steel produced by hot rolling and controlled cooling or thermomechanical treatment. Weldable grades control carbon equivalent.

Common standards and grades

ASTM A615, ASTM A706, BS 4449, EN/B500 families and national standards are widely used. Strength classes and ductility categories vary by region.

Typical applications

Foundations, slabs, columns, walls, bridges, tunnels, marine structures and civil infrastructure.

Engineering and procurement checks

Check yield grade, ductility class, weldability, bend/rebend performance, rib geometry, bar diameter, coating if specified and mill certification.

Manufacturer selection

Source from a mill or qualified stockist able to supply the exact standard, grade, dimensions, delivery condition and certification required. Confirm manufacturer approval status, heat traceability, test certificates, marking and any project-specific third-party inspection.
