AISI 321 Stainless Steel
AISI 321 is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel developed for improved resistance to sensitization during elevated-temperature exposure.
Grade overview
Titanium stabilizes carbon and reduces chromium-carbide precipitation under appropriate conditions.
Typical applications
Aircraft exhaust components, high-temperature ducting, heat-exchanger parts and process equipment subject to elevated-temperature exposure.
Equivalent / related designations
EN 1.4541 is a commonly compared designation. Stabilization does not make the grade universally superior to 304L or 316L; service environment governs selection.
Common manufacturers and supply
Produced by major stainless and specialty flat/bar/tube mills.
Fabrication and selection notes
Confirm the exact product standard, edition, dimensions, delivery condition, mechanical properties, impact requirements, heat treatment, welding procedure, corrosion environment and certification. A grade name alone is not sufficient for procurement or design approval.
QA/QC documentation
For critical service, verify heat number traceability, mill test certificate, chemical analysis, tensile/impact results where required, NDT, heat-treatment record and project-specific third-party inspection requirements.
Element Folio engineering reference. Values and requirements vary by standard edition, product form and manufacturer; always verify the latest governing specification.
